The Bodega

A real ale pub, steeped in history

If there was ever a reminder of what drinking in Victorian days was like, you’ll find it at The Bodega.

One of the most popular venues in Newcastle, and the pub where staff from other pubs go for a drink, it boasts a traditional long bar, Victorian stained glass domes, elaborately tiled floors, and lots and lots (and lots) of history.

The pub was crowned Real Ale Pub of the Year in 2014, 2015, and was runner-up in 2016, so you can also expect a true commitment to offering the very best real ale. And when you combine that with a great mix of people, large screen plasma TVs, and friendly staff, it’s the perfect place to relax before or after visiting nearby St James’ Park, the Tyne Theatre, or virtually anywhere else.

The Chillingham

One of the few remaining traditional pubs in Heaton

The Chillingham is invaluable. It’s one of only a handful of venues that focus on offering real ale, with one of the best selections of guest ales in the region.

An imposing landmark with close proximity to Chillingham Road Metro station, it forms a busy meeting place for locals. This public house offers good beer, cocktails and wine. A warm and friendly welcome is guaranteed.  The Chillingham is a cornerstone of Heaton’s social hub, a big screen for matchdays, and a buzzing atmosphere.

The public house provides lively quiz nights and a function room for hire which regularly hosts live music and comedy.

The Plough

Enjoy a warm, friendly atmosphere in a real ale pub

Converting an old farm into a pub normally guarantees that you’ll discover interesting architectural features, cosy spaces, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. You’ll find all that and much more at The Plough in Cramlington Village. In fact, the pub actually comprises the original farmhouse and steading, plus the unusual circular building that was once used to grind corn.

The wine list is fantastic, and the real ale selection is even better. Just as importantly, the staff offer a great welcome, and you can choose to join in the lively atmosphere at the bar, enjoy a more sedate pace in the lounge, or make the most of the weather in the large beer garden.

It’s certainly one of Cramlington’s most popular pubs, and once you’ve visited, it’s easy to see why.
